OSAT (On-Site Assessment and Training) can help you access work on all sites.
More and more construction sites are demanding that workers have a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card to prove they are skilled and safety aware. Without a CSCS card, workers may not be able to get work on-site.
Through the OSAT process, experienced but 'unqualified' construction workers are able to gain a nationally recognised qualification ('NVQ') in the workplace. This can then help them to obtain a CSCS card - something that proves the worker is skilled in their trade and that they have passed the relevant health and safety test.
This fast-track route to the 'NVQ' is available to candidates who have at least 3 years experience in their chosen trade. The 'NVQ' proves that candidates have knowledge of construction skills and safety legislation as well as occupational competency, all of which will support employers' and individuals' business needs and growth as candidates become qualified.
How does it work?
- An assessor visits the candidate in the workplace and will agree a plan of assessment and evidence gathering.
- The assessor & candidate build a portfolio of evidence that leads to the qualification.
- The assessor makes regular visits to monitor progress and can provide telephone and email support in addition to those visits.
- Employers are expected to support their staff during the OSAT process. This includes allowing time for the candidate to meet the assessor, helping to provide evidence and signing evidence sheets in the portfolio.
